The Australasian Existential Society was started by a group
of interested people who wanted a space to discuss, debate and learn from each other on all aspects of existential and phenomenological theory and
practice. The group, or ‘hub’ as it has
become known over the years, consists of counsellors, psychotherapists and those
who believe passionately in living in an existential manner. The hub meets
regularly to organise the forums and other activities.
We believe that there are many ways to interpret how we work
and live within the existential philosophy – hence the society is open to a
broad range of views and opinions which allows for ‘difference’ to be
embraced. Indeed members have quoted
that the AES fosters “belongingness in difference”. It is a place for intellectual thinking, personal reflection, a
safe niche for expression and a forum for exploring what it is to work within
the existential/phenomenological paradigm.
The forums in their diversity are an expression of this philosophy.
